VR Day Spain 2021: How was the most important XR event of the year?

Last November 20th was held the VR Day (Virtual Reality Day), the biggest event of the year for the XR community worldwide. An appointment that also has its own participation in Spain, this being the seventh edition in which events are organized in our country around the day of Virtual Reality.

However, the edition of VR Day Spain 2021 has been the first in which a collaborative event has been organized nationwide with the active participation of important exponents of the entire XR community throughout our geography. So much so, that all the events held during this day were organized collaboratively by Inmersiva XR, GDG Zaragoza, XRHub Pamplonaand Neàpolis.

Why is VR Day being held in Spain?

VR Day is an initiative whose main purpose is to publicize and promote the use of new interactive technologies, such as Virtual Reality, among the general public. A call for all those lovers of technology, and more specifically of VR, which globally since its first edition, has always had a multitude of events in different locations around the world, and is always held the weekend before Black Friday.

In Spain, it emerged as a space in which to give visibility to the most interesting projects that were being carried out in our country using Virtual Reality, and year after year it has been growing and increasing its numbers, expanding at the same speed as interactive technologies do.

For this reason, this year, not only Virtual Reality has been discussed and debated but also other XR technologies, such as Augmented Reality, or even the creation of the expected metaverses and their possibilities for the future.

What was our participation in VR Day Spain 2021?

At DeuSens, as one of the first 5 startups to be born by and for the creation of Virtual Reality experiences, we have always seen Virtual Reality Day as an opportunity to show what we like to do most: create Hyperexperiences that bring value to our customers through the use of technology, creativity and innovation.

For this reason, we have always liked to collaborate and support the realization of this type of events in which to bring together the Spanish XR community to address the issues that we are so passionate about. And this year we have been able to do so, in addition, as official sponsors of VR Day Spain 2021, and as co-organizers through GDG Zaragoza.

As if that were not enough, our CEO and co-founder Álvaro Monzón was also able to participate in the space "El Altavoz" in which the participating companies exposed one by one their projects related to the use of Extended Reality.

The online edition that brought together the XR community

Due to the collaborative nature of the event, which was organized jointly by Immersiva XR, GDG Zaragoza, XRHub Pamplona and Neàpolis, the day not only featured papers and online workshops broadcast via streaming, but also presential events were held in several Spanish cities, such as a showroom in Madrid to test XR experiences, a meeting open to the public in Barcelona, presential workshops on interactive technologies in Zaragoza and an exhibition with companies in the XR sector in Pamplona.

Events, workshops and face-to-face events

VR Day Spain 2021 was not only experienced online, but also included face-to-face proposals in the different venues organizing the event, such as Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza and Pamplona.

For our part, through the GDG Zaragoza two face-to-face workshops were organized as part of the DevFest week. The first one was given by Cynthia Gálvez and was about Augmented Reality for social networks, in which Cynthia showed examples of Instagram filters created by herself using Spark AR software. The second, given by our colleague Alejandro Gracia consisted of a workshop on immersive experiences in web format, in which Alejandro talked about the Model-Viewer tool, showed examples created by DeuSens and performed a live demo of how to create this type of experiences.

Showrooms with different XR solutions provided by companies from the community were organized in Madrid and Pamplona and were visited by other professionals from the sector as well as by the interested public. In these showrooms you could find from VR simulators, Augmented Reality experiences and all kinds of XR solutions you can imagine.

After this exciting edition of VR Day Spain 2021, we are already looking forward to what the 2022 edition will bring, where we hope to meet again with the great XR community of this country and be able to share the passion, work and dreams that unite us, rowing in the same direction to continue promoting the use of technology and the commitment to innovation as an engine of progress.
