CLIENT
KARTeX is the first company to create an innovative immersive entertainment and active education proposal powered by pedal karts. With its technology platform, KARTeX combines real physical movement, virtual reality and educational methodology to offer unique experiences for people of all ages and abilities.
GOAL ACHIEVED
Develop an immersive road safety education programme that teaches children and young people to navigate the city safely, sustainably and consciously, using KARTeX's kart-based virtual reality technology.

When road safety education becomes an adventure

Urban Explorers is an immersive road safety education programme developed by DeuSens for KARTeX, designed to teach children and young people aged 8 to 14 how to move around the city safely, sustainably and responsibly. A proposal that transforms traditional road safety training into a practical, active and emotionally meaningful experience.

The programme responds to the need to adapt road education to today's reality: new unlicensed modes of transport such as bicycles and electric scooters, greater autonomy at younger ages, and a rise in risk behaviours in urban environments. In response, DeuSens and KARTeX developed a solution combining real physical movement, virtual reality and a structured educational methodology, endorsed by Grupo Piquer as a strategic educational partner.

The result is a modular, scalable programme aligned with current institutional frameworks — including the LOMLOE curriculum and the DGT Road Safety Strategy — that can be deployed in schools, municipal facilities, temporary activations or permanent road safety installations.

A mission on every ride

In Urban Explorers, every ride is a mission. Participants pedal karts equipped with virtual reality headsets, immersing themselves in a simulated urban environment where they must make real mobility decisions: obeying traffic signs, sharing the road with other users, and responding to risk situations. Every decision has an immediate consequence, reinforcing learning through action.

The experience is structured in three 15-minute blocks for up to 30 concurrent participants, making it ideal for full school groups. The format allows students to rotate between programme phases without interrupting the flow of the activity, maximising active participation time for each participant.

The narrative was designed to connect emotionally with the target audience: participants are not students in a classroom, but urban explorers on a mission. This narrative layer, combined with real physical movement, creates a memorable experience that supports the transfer of learning into everyday life.

A three-phase methodology: awareness, experience and reflection

Urban Explorers goes beyond the immersive experience: it is a complete educational programme structured in three phases. The first is awareness — a guided introduction to road safety, urban mobility and coexistence, which contextualises the challenges participants will face during the experience.

The second phase is the immersive experience itself, where participants ride through a virtual urban circuit and face real mobility scenarios. The system evaluates their decisions and attitudes in real time, generating individual data on personal safety, respect for others and decision-making under risk.

The third phase is evaluation and reflection: each participant receives a report with their overall score and areas for improvement, enabling educators to work through the results in the classroom and consolidate learning. The system also generates aggregated data useful for schools and local authorities, making Urban Explorers a tool with measurable impact, not just experiential value.

A scalable programme with real impact on urban mobility

Urban Explorers is designed to adapt to multiple contexts: from school sports halls to municipal road safety programmes, temporary event activations or permanent installations. With circuits starting from 16m x 34m and capacity for nine simultaneous participants in its minimum configuration, the programme is replicable across territories and scalable to the needs of each administration or institution.

The partnership with Grupo Piquer ensures the programme is aligned with the LOMLOE curriculum and DGT priorities, facilitating its integration as a complement to existing road safety programmes. This alliance allows Urban Explorers to be presented not just as an innovative experience, but as a solid, assessable educational tool with proven pedagogical backing.

With Urban Explorers, KARTeX and DeuSens demonstrate that immersive technology can serve prevention and education, generating real long-term social impact. Investing today in road safety education means preventing tomorrow's risks.
