Daydream
Daydream was presented on May 18 at Google I/O 2016. This new platform will allow manufacturers and developers to create higher quality virtual reality experiences. The heads of Google explained that the new virtual reality experiences will be based on three components: Smartphones, design and applications.
Phones compatible with Daydream will have to have a series of requirements that guarantee quality virtual reality, achieving perfect immersion. Among them, a certain type of screen, processor and sensors. Several smartphone manufacturers will offer compatible devices: Samsung, HTC, LG, Huawei, Xiaomi, ZTE, ASUS and Alcatel were some of those highlighted by Google. However, as of today, it believes that there is no phone on the market that is fully compatible.
Design
The virtual reality glasses will go one step further. Google's idea is that the cardboard is the "low end" of VR, so we forget about the cardboard glasses. But what's really new is that the glasses will be accompanied by a controller that will have a trackpad and an orientation sensor to move through the virtual worlds more easily.
Applications
The most important feature ,and where you really see a higher quality experience, is in the software. Google will have a section in Google Play dedicated to apps, games and VR content.
Although at Google I/O 2010 hardly any information was given about models, prices, manufacturers and exact release dates, last Friday ZTE surprised us with the presentation of Axon 7, claiming to be the first smartphone compatible with Daydream. Anyway, if you are interested in this platform, Google recommended "wait a few months"before buying a compatible smartphone.
