Magic Leap One, the new Augmented Reality Glasses

Magic Leap One, the new Augmented Reality Glasses

A while ago, we told you about some unknowns unveiled by Magic Leap, the mysterious U.S. AR startup that created so much hype. Specifically, we mentioned the creation of a device that was going to revolutionize and take augmented reality to the next level. Do you remember? Well, finally and after two years of waiting, that device is now on the market: Magic Leap One.

A new technology: Lightfield

Magic Leap has developed a new technology called Lightfield. Thanks to transparent glasses - which look like something out of a Tim Burton movie - much more realistic experiences are created. These superimpose digital 3D graphics on the individual's actual vision, just as Google Glass or Microsoft HoloLens would do.

Lightfield not only captures light rays, but also maps the different directions from which they come. This gives animations, objects and holograms a much greater sense of depth, increasing the realism of the scene.

Introducing us to Magic Leap One

In order to increase the sense of realism, the Magic Leap One has four built-in microphones that enhance sound perception. In addition to six cameras that monitor position and movement in real time within a 180-degree field of view. It is a much more advanced device than its competition.

We see that it is a completely revolutionary augmented reality device: eye-tracking system, hand tracking and real-time location.... In addition, with the idea of virtually interacting with services that we commonly use on the Internet, they have various web services.

Another plus point is its durability. Unlike other devices that only last about two hours, Magic Leap promises a longer playing time. This will allow the user to enjoy three non-stop hours of augmented reality.

In addition, it includes a number of apps that help enhance the user experience. Among these are:

  • The Helio browser.
  • The Social collaborative application.
  • The Tónandi apps, which recreates a journey of sounds and images through the musical band Sigur Rós; Create, a game focused on developing the creativity of the individual without limits; and Dr. Grordbort's Invaders, a classic robot invasion game that is not yet available.

How can I get my hands on them?

For now, the Magic Leap One are marketed only in the United States. Through an exclusive delivery and installation service, a company representative brings it to your home and sets it up for free. This is something that has never been seen before and confirms that this is a product aimed at an unusual audience.

Another drawback that adds to the list is its high, albeit expected, price. The figure hovers around $2,295, a price that even surpasses that of other virtual reality goggles. This makes the Magic Leap One a rather expensive product.

Some details...

Unlike most virtual reality goggles or the HoloLens themselves, the Magic Leap One cannot be used or adjusted with viewing glasses. However, to solve this problem, it has special lenses that help to do so. That yes, with an additional cost.

In addition to the glasses, the pack includes a computer and a wireless controller with trigger, front button and another start button, a touchpad circular with a ring of LED lights and haptic vibration feedback.

Tracing the origins of Magic Leap

Magic Leap was born from a comic designed by one of the co-creators, and now executive creative director of Magic Leap, of one of the most recognized sagas in the Marvel world: Guardians of the Galaxy.

From this story came many of the elements that today make up its visual identity. Among which stand out the main character of the comic, which was transferred to the logo, and the prototype of these augmented reality glasses.

From DeuSens we are already investigating how we can get the Magic Leap One to incorporate them into our business model and thus create new projects that provide the latest technological solutions to the problems of our customers. Our goal is to continue growing in the field of augmented reality in Zaragoza and continue creating unique hyper-experiences that make us make a difference.
