Project carried out for Arte e investigación cultural in collaboration with the City Council of Zaragoza.
GOAL ACHIEVED
Develop the real-time image assessment system and interactive installation for the Pre_Imaginaries 2020 exhibition.
Pre_Imaginarios Exhibition 2020
The exhibition Pre_Imaginarios 2020 was born in the mind of a group of young people passionate about architecture, who intended to create a collective imaginary, with the aim of imagining the evolution of the city before it happens. An idea that finally became a reality and that was, moreover, promoted by Arte e Investigación Cultural and the city council of Zaragoza.
This is how this exhibition was born as a meeting point to rethink the upcoming city, making a collection of architectural images produced by students, professionals and citizens of Zaragoza, in the search for finding an emerging and common perspective for the population, on how the city and architecture will have to face the post-Covid19 reality.
The exhibition that finally took place during the month of October, in 3 different venues located in cultural centers of the city of Zaragoza, counted with the participation of DeuSens to perform the technical and technological section of the interactive installation through an audiovisual projection that showed in real time the constant change of images in the collective pre-imaginary, depending on the opinions that citizens emitted both online and in person at the exhibition.
Creation of a virtual collective imaginary
In the weeks prior to the start of the exhibition, more than 240 images were received from citizens of the city trying to represent their idea about certain themes and aspects of the city. Our task throughout this project was to create a system that would host these images virtually and allow all citizens, through a computer application, to view them and select those that most closely resembled their line of thinking.
After this, we also created a voting system so that citizens could choose the concepts and images that most closely resembled their line of thinking. After this, the system created an unstructured grid that showed the images most valued by the public in a larger size and the least valued in a smaller size, creating a virtual collective imaginary that showed a completely visual perspective of the concepts chosen in consensus by the entire citizenry.
Interactive installation and technical characteristics
Finally, at the main exhibition venue, located in the space of the former Pignatelli warehouses, an interactive installation of all the samples and images received as well as an audiovisual projection, which by means of videomapping, showed the changes that took place in the virtual collective imaginary in real time.
The users of the exhibition themselves could also cast their votes and comments in real time from the site itself. For this purpose, QR codes were placed for each of the exhibits and images arranged in the hall. In this way, users examining each of the QR codes were redirected to the voting system that allowed them to contribute their opinion to the virtual collective imagination and subsequently check the changes in the interactive installation through the audiovisual projection.
