CLIENT
The VASS Foundation was created to support digital talent through training, research and technological innovation. For its part, DOWN ESPAÑA is the reference organization for Down syndrome in Spain.
GOAL ACHIEVED
Develop a tool to simulate and practice everyday and work situations in a virtual environment.

Transformative project for social inclusion

The collaboration between Fundación VASS, DeuSens and Fundación Down España was a step forward in the use of technology for social purposes. The challenge was clear: to create a solution that would help people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities to prepare for their integration into the workplace and their daily lives, giving them greater autonomy and confidence.

Through an innovative program, immersive technology was put at the service of people, offering a tool that made it possible to simulate real situations in a safe, adapted and accessible way. This project not only broke down barriers, but also boosted the development of key competencies to face day-to-day life and access the working world with a better preparation.

The focus was always centered on the individual, enhancing his or her capabilities and respecting his or her learning pace. The initiative also served to raise awareness in society and the business environment of the importance of creating inclusive spaces adapted to everyone.

Personalized immersive training: everyday and work situations

The development of the solution combined Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR) through the use of Meta Quest 3 devices, adapting each experience to the needs of the users. Training modules were designed focused on both everyday tasks and real work situations.

One of the modules allowed to practice the “leave the house and take the bus” route, recreating realistic scenarios where participants could repeat the experience until they gained confidence. Other modules focused on training in the work environment, for example, the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), facilitating the acquisition of routines and skills necessary for the safe performance of a job.

The progressive use of technology, starting with Mixed Reality and moving towards Virtual Reality, allowed participants to adapt gradually and comfortably. The platform leveraged Meta Quest 3's capabilities, such as hand tracking, ease of use and high visual quality, ensuring an accessible and personalized experience.

The methodology employed allowed each user to train at their own pace, in a safe and risk-free environment, favoring repetition, exploration and meaningful learning.

Real social impact: more confidence, autonomy and opportunities

The initiative had a tangible impact on the lives of the participants. People with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities gained in confidence, autonomy and social skills, facing everyday and work situations with greater self-confidence.

The immersive training favored the development of competencies such as communication, problem solving and task management, key elements for their integration into the world of work. In addition, the possibility of practicing in an adapted environment reduced fear and anxiety in the face of the unknown, facilitating a smoother transition to new experiences.

The project highlighted the importance of technology as an ally for social and labor inclusion, and served as an inspiring example for other entities and companies. The collaboration of Fundación VASS, DeuSens and Fundación Down España reinforced the joint commitment to building a more inclusive society, where each person can show their talent and add value.
