New virtual reality projects
Murcia, capital of virtual reality
Murcia became the world capital of virtual reality at the beginning of September by hosting the Immersed Europe Event. This event attracted the creators of Google Earth, video games such as Tomb Raider or Battlefield or those responsible for the visual effects of Matrix, X-Men, Transformers or Maleficent, among others.
This is the first time the event is held in Europe. It is important to note that Murcia was chosen to host the event because of the many technology companies that are making significant advances in immersive technologies. Also because Spain is the highest ranking country in the demand ranking for virtual reality devices and products.
Feel the music closer than ever
Four Argentines will launch in 2016 the first music platform in virtual reality. It will provide users with the possibility of choosing the right environment to listen to their favorite songs and watch concerts from home.
The platform is called Vrtify. It is an open source technology that generates a sense of immersiveness in the user. This is achieved through images obtained with 360 cameras and environments that interact with the sound through algorithms. In addition, it will come with Youtube and Spotify integrated. It will be marketed in the Android and iOS mobile app stores.
The Oculus Rift is here to stay
Oculus Story Studio presented the first virtual reality short film created for Oculus Rift, Henry. The creative team is led by storytelling and animation specialists. Highlights include Saschka Unseld, a former Pixar employee who was involved in the animation of Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.
Conquer the World
Space VR wants to record in 360 the experience of being in space. In order to install the device on the orbital station they must raise $500,000 through crowdfounding. People who contribute $250 to the crowdfunding campaign will be eligible for a one-year subscription to the 360 content service.
Thanks to the initiative there is already talk of space tourism, although thanks to Space Vr it will be carried out without assuming risks or millionaire costs. The content would be displayed through low-cost devices such as Google Cardboard. If the initiative works, they intend to develop other projects such as live transmission from the International Space Station or install cameras on the Moon, Mars, an asteroid or satellites already launched from Earth. Nothing more and nothing less.
Cook better than ever
Leroy Merlin has launched the first application to visualize virtual kitchens with Oculus Rift in stores. In this way, customers can choose with a joystick the layout, style and elements of the space. This will offer them a satisfying shopping experience.
The company states that in this way they add 1000 square meters to a store with only one square meter of display space. The catalog offers a view of 50 full-scale kitchens. They are currently available in stores in Malaga and Aldaia. Soon it will be in the future Sant Cugat store, but they intend to install it in a large number of their stores.
