Virtual Reality to innovate in soft skills training
The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) decided to take a step forward in the digitization of its training programs for companies, integrating Virtual Reality as an innovative tool in the development of soft skills.
Aware of the need to evolve traditional teaching methods, the UOC trusted DeuSens to design a training experience that would take advantage of the immersive potential of this technology. A project that responded to the growing demand for interactive and practical solutions that allow professionals to improve their communication skills in a simulated but realistic environment, thus optimizing their learning and applicability in the working world.
360º immersive experience with real-time decision making
The solution developed consisted of a series of 360º recordings with real actors, in which the user becomes the protagonist of a story that simulates real communication situations in the business environment, for example working in the marketing department of a small agency.
Throughout the experience, the user had to make key decisions that changed the course of the story, facing different scenarios that reflected common problems in communication within work teams.
With a total of 26 possible versions and 2 alternative endings, this interactive approach allowed participants to experience the consequences of their choices and reflect on the importance of assertiveness in communication. Thanks to the immersive format, the user was completely immersed in the narrative, experiencing first-hand the communication challenges and developing essential skills for their professional performance.
The bet of virtual reality in education and training
The development of interpersonal skills is a key aspect of professional training, but traditional methods do not always allow students to face real situations in a practical way. By using Virtual Reality we were able to bring a disruptive approach by allowing participants to practice in a safe environment, experiencing different situations and learning actively rather than theoretically.
This methodology undoubtedly succeeded in fostering deeper understanding and accelerated learning, improving knowledge retention and skills transfer to the real world. With projects like this, the UOC has proven to lead the way in integrating technology into corporate training, fostering new, more effective and accessible ways of learning.
