La Adrada Castle | Museum Digitisation with AI and Hologram

The Ayuntamiento de La Adrada (Ávila), together with Telefónica Tech, drove the conversion of its medieval castle into a digital museum space. The same alliance that had already brought "Las Huellas del Papel" to life once again backed immersive technology to bring the history of the Tiétar Valley closer to every visitor.
GOAL ACHIEVED
The challenge was to turn the castle's rooms into a living journey, where portraits and static elements became points of interaction with the valley's history.

A New Digital Chapter for La Adrada Castle

La Adrada Castle had already been the setting for a hyperexperience with "Las Huellas del Papel". This time, the Ayuntamiento de La Adrada and Telefónica Tech commissioned DeuSens to extend that digital commitment to other rooms of the museum route, adding new layers of interaction to the Historical Interpretation Centre of the Tiétar Valley.

As a result, the castle not only retains its role as a local history museum, but gains a technological layer designed for every type of visitor, inviting them to actively participate rather than simply observe.

AI Portraits: Visitors Become Part of History

Alongside the gallery of characters who shaped the castle's history — such as Ruy López Dávalos, Antonio de la Cueva or Isabel I — DeuSens developed an artificial intelligence and faceswap experience that invites visitors to become part of that lineage. By scanning the QR code next to each portrait, the system overlays the visitor's face onto the clothing and frame of the chosen historical character.

The result is a personalised souvenir photograph, downloadable instantly from the visitor's own phone, which they take home as their own portrait within the castle's history.

The Legend of the Moza Comes to Life in a Holographic Projection

In one of the rooms, the castle's own stone wall becomes a hologram surface: a figure wrapped in light emerges over the stone, accompanied by handwritten messages that seem to speak directly to whoever looks at them. The scene revives the legend of the Moza, tied to the castle, turning it into a continuous presence throughout the visit thanks to this holographic projection.

Without needing to press anything or follow instructions, the effect turns a passing point into a moment of pause, generating a sense of historical presence that no information panel could achieve on its own.

A Journey You Can Touch: Paper and Territory

Fray Joseph, the Hieronymite monk who already guided the "Las Huellas del Papel" experience at the tourist office, returns as a connecting thread in a new stage-based interactive that invites visitors to take part in the papermaking trade: sorting materials, assembling the tool, moving step by step through a process that sustained the valley's economy for centuries.

The journey is completed with an interactive table set over a physical model of the Tiétar Valley's terrain, where touching each point of the landscape lets visitors compare how the area's towns looked then and how they look today, closing the visit with an overview of the wider territory.

An Interpretation Centre Worth Lingering In

With this second intervention, La Adrada Castle consolidated its profile as one of the most digitised heritage destinations in the province of Ávila, adding a route of its own within the Historical Interpretation Centre of the Tiétar Valley to "Las Huellas del Papel". What used to be a passing visit, with panels and display cases, became an experience that keeps visitors in each room and gives them reasons to stay longer than planned.

The project also strengthened the relationship of trust between DeuSens and the Ayuntamiento de La Adrada, showing that different technologies — artificial intelligence, architectural projection and interactive cartography — can coexist under a single museographic narrative without competing with one another or altering the building's historic character. A model that sets a precedent for other municipalities with similar heritage and the ambition to turn it into a living experience.
